PENCO Acoustic Dreadnought Guitar VINTAGE MIJ LAWSUIT (MARTIN D41 / D35 style)

Description

This guitar is a vintage Penco acoustic model D45-JD.  Penco was a "house brand" for the Philadelphia Music Company in the 1960s/1970s. They were the USA main distributor for the Hoshino Gakki Co. which is best known today for making Ibanez guitars. This was during the "lawsuit era", during which exact copies of popular high-end guitars were made in Japan (MIJ) and imported for sale (commonly copies of Martin and Gibson). This seems to be a rare Penco model and there is not a lot of information on this specific model that I can find. I can say that it was made during the "lawsuit" era and is essentially a reverse-engineered Martin D-35 with D-41 style abalone trim.
This Penco has a solid spruce top and what appears to be Brazilian rosewood back/sides with a flamed maple strip in the back center. The back and sides look like solid wood to me, but I cannot confirm nor deny from my research. There is a lot of hearsay on the internet regarding the manufacturer specs, so you should do your own research and come to your own conclusions if this is important to you. I can say that it has good volume and very nice vintage tone with good bass response and some sparkle on the highs. I'd describe the tone as well balanced (I've had several Martins and it isn't as bass forward as a D-28 so if you're looking for a bluegrass 'cannon', this is not it). The person I picked it up from was a studio musician who said it records very well and was used on backing tracks for some television productions. It's setup with a passive under saddle pickup, but I have never tested it. Comes with generic hard shell case seen in photos. Selling to help thin out my collection but I would also consider trades for other acoustics if you are local or within a few hours drive of New York City.
Condition is good for a 50 year old guitar. Frets are in great shape and the action is nice and low. Abalone and trim are in perfect shape. You can see these flaws in the photos which are fairly minor but I try to be as detailed as possible regarding condition.
Cosmetic issues:
1. There was a bridge crack that was repaired at some point in the past which is 100% stable. You can see the split if you look closely.
2. There is a small crack in the gloss finish on the right upper bout near the fingerboard. Visible in one photo, but again, you will need to look closely. There are no cracks in the body of the guitar.
