    Description

Here is a 1966 Epiphone FT-85 Serenader. These were made alongside the B-25 12 at the Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is basically a 12 string version of the Gibson LG-2 with an Epiphone logo. This guitar is X-braced. They share the same dimensions as the Gibson having a 19 inch body, 14 1/4" lower bout, and 24 3/4" scale length. The body is 4 1/2" deep. The top is spruce with mahogany back and sides. It has a 2 inch wide nut with a D shaped profile neck. I have owned the 12 string version with the fixed string thru bridge but these tailpiece versions are far more popular.
This guitar has it's fair share of problems. It suffered from the ubiquitous cracks on either end of the fingerboard. This is usually a tell tale sign the neck is coming loose. Because the guitar couldn't be repaired with the utmost ease as it sat it was subsequently disassembled. The entire heel block was removed from the body with neck attached. It would take a skilled craftsman to put it back together again. There is an outline inside the body of where the block used to sit so it should be straight forward but a jig may be required to ensure proper alignment.
This guitar did have a couple crack repairs on the top from previous use. Then neck was carefully removed to cause the least bit of damage to the instrument. As you can see bits of binding broke off. I have them in a bag. I do not have the original tuners but a set of aftermarket tuners will come with the guitar. The tailpiece is aftermarket as well. This would make a good project for someone.
